Joy-Filled Hardship

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:07 pm by ogle3

I just spent an entire month working through Puritan literature with my American lit class.  The focus: joy-filled hardship, according to James 1:

2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything…12Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

The Puritans endured many trials as they travelled to America and set up their colonies.  Despite these trials, even the loss of half of their company, the Puritans praised God.

We haven’t lost half of our company (praise God), but we have lost just the same.  We too, like the Puritans, praise God for his lovingkindness in this time.

We’re thankful that this happened now, not 6 months from now.

We’re thankful that this occurred without my realization.

We’re thankful that my body is empty of anything that would require additional surgery or removal.

We’re thankful that we had several days off last week to process what could (and did) happen.

We’re thankful that we no longer need to stress over full-time and part-time positions or returning to work so soon after having the baby.

We’re thankful that everyone has been praying for us – we’ve felt God’s peace through this.

We’re thankful for the baby God has already chosen for our family, the baby that wouldn’t be without this loss.

We’re thankful for God and all of His promises – “In all things God works for the Good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose”  (Romans 8:28).

Now the dilemma – return to Ogle3 or stay at Ogle4?  God will give us a fourth when just the right baby for us is ready, and in the mean time, He is our fourth.

Laura, I’m so sorry for your loss. Gabe and I lost a baby in the same way over Christmas of 2005. We grieved for her loss, but now rejoice in our Thomas (who could not have been conceived if our Sara had been born.) May you rejoice in #4 when God blesses you with him or her.

    Laura-
I don’t think we have met, but I am a Torrey Grad and a friend alerted me to your loss. I am so sad to hear about the loss of your little one. I am praying for you that God will bring healing to you and your family. We lost a our baby girl, Marylou, 11 months ago and will be forever impacted by her. Praying for you and your family of four, for you are still a family of four, one is just waiting for you in heaven.
